Bloomsburg Area YMCA (BAY)

Coach Nick comes to us from Pittsburgh, PA. He swam for Northgate High School where he was named team captain his senior year and helped lead them to their one and only WPIAL (District VII) Team Championship. Nick then competed for Bloomsburg University and was namedas a team captain for three out of the five years he competed. During that time, He helped the Huskies win their first PSAC Championship. Coach Nick graduated from Bloomsburg with a degree in Secondary Education and Earth, Geographical, and Geological Sciences. He is currently obtaining a masters degree in Sports Management from Commonwealth University (Lock Haven). On top of school, Coach Nick is also the head for both Bloomsburg High School and the YMCA.

Coach Cindy enters her fourth year of coaching at BAY. She swam competitively at Shippensburg University, where she was a 22-time All-American, a former PSAC record holder, and was named the 1994 PSAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Her love for multisport led her to triathlon, and she now races competitively, most recently qualifying for and competing in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship, placing second in her age group during the swim. She is also a USA Triathlon–certified Associate Coach and leads a youth triathlon team, helping young athletes develop strong technique, confidence, and a lifelong love of sport. Coach Cindy is a retired chemistry professor from Bloomsburg University, where she taught for 23 years. She’s married to Fred Reck, who many will recognize as one of our meet officials. They have three children: two grown, and one still swimming on the team.

Coach Sam comes to us from our own back yard in Danville. Swimming for Danville throughout her high school career. Coach Sam went on to compete for Mansfield University before her career got cut short due to an injury while in the Military. Coach Sam has a passion for education and leadership which ultimately led her to our YMCA swimming program.

Coach Sarah, a former BAY swimmer, joins us after graduating Dickinson College and swimming for the past four years. Coach Sarah swam for Central Columbia and currently holds the girls 100 Backstroke record for the Blue Jays. During her time at Central she wasa 4x PIAA State Qualifier and 1x All-State Honorable Mention. As she returns home, she looks to pursue a masters degree in Speech Pathology.

Coach Justine joins us from Phillipsburg, New Jersey. As a YMCA swimmer, growing up, Coach Justine was coached by her father at Nazareth Easton. She would compete for Phillipsburg High School and qualify for multiple NJSIAA Championships. She would go on to compete at Saint Peters University and Drew University as both a swimmer and diver. She ultimately found herself finishing her collegiate career at Bloomsburg while getting her MBA in the process. While not at the pool, she is a manager at the Bloomsburg Theater Assemble and assists Coach Nick with Bloomsburg High School as the team’s diving coach.

Coach Tara comes to us from Wilkes-Barre, PA. She swam for Wyoming Seminary where she earned 9x All-State Honors. She then attended Franklin & Marshall before transferring to Bloomsburg where she swam and was named a team captain her senior year. Tara graduated with a degree in Early Education and is now a teacher at Benton. Coach Tara primarily works with our Red Group and Little Red Group.
